Family

Yet another 4-legged friend as made it into our family. Our aunt and uncle adopted this beauty this past weekend. This rescue dog is one lucky girl! Her name is Heidi. She is part shepherd and part rottweiler. What a sweetheart she is!

She is great on a leash, has had some proper training and is a delight with the children. Lots of hugs and licks from this girl! Don't you just love her ears?!?

Ironically, the humane society that she was adopted from had her name down as King. Somebody needs to freshen up their skills on gender recognition!

What do you do when it is super cold outside and the wind chill factor is below zero?
You act silly and take funny photos - that's what we do!

HOORAY!!!

Great news! Our site was selected as the site of the day on dogmark.net.

We are so excited! The only thing better would be if the award were edible!
We think we deserve a special reward for working so hard
(well me and Oscar at least. Tucker doesn't like to work hard at anything except getting dirty. He is a pro at that!)

We love blogging and special treats like this make it all worth while!
Vote for us to be the site of the month once you visit dogmark.net.
We'll smother you with lots of licks and kisses if you do!

Holiday Safety

Keeping us happy and safe is top priority in our house. Our family makes sure that we are always well-cared for. Occasionally, Taz the cat finds a q-tip and plays with it and then Tucker feels the need to shred it up but besides that, we are good. We wanted to remind everyone of some common household poisons to keep away from us. These common items that can be found in everyones homes are poison for dogs and cats. Most items are common sense but here are a few that might not be and need to be kept out of our reach:
  • Christmas tree water (trees are chemically treated so the water could contain fertilizers and bacteria)
  • Electrical cords
  • Ribbons and/or tinsel
  • Batteries
  • Glass ornaments
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Avocado (blech!)
  • Chocolate (all forms - but carob is a chocolate substitute that is okay for us to eat!)
  • Coffee (all forms)
  • Macadamia nuts
  • Onions, onion powder
  • Raisins and grapes (these can damage our kidneys!)
  • Salt
  • Yeast dough
  • Products sweetened with xylitol
  • Antifreeze
  • Liquid potpourri
  • Fabric softener sheets
  • Mothballs
  • Pantyhose
Have a great holiday season and remember to be safe!

Licks and Sniffs,
Tinkerbell, Oscar and Tucker

In The News

Yeah! One of our favorite mombloggers did a review of our mom's doggie treats. Our mom sent some treats to Amanda's dog Abby. She loved them!!! Check out what she wrote about them at:

http://www.mommymandy.com/2008/12/gifts-for-doggies.html

We think mom's treats are the best! Thanks Amanda and Abby!

Cats

Since this is our blog, we feel that we can write about whatever we want.
WE FEEL THAT CATS DO NOT BELONG ON OUR BLOG!

They are big, ugly and smelly!
(Okay, not really but they just aren't dogs and they think that they are just so much better than us. Hmph!)

Anyway, we got to thinking about it and decided to make an exception. We felt that we should introduce you to our "cousin". His name is Radar and here's his story:

Our aunt M is an animal magnet. If there is a stray within a 5 mile radius, it will find her. Always has, always will. She spends a small income making sure the deer that wander into her backyard have food, the mommy raccoon that wanders onto her deck year after ye
ar with her kids has food, the many birds that frequent her feeders have food and not to mention her three Boston Terriers Deuce, Tillie and Belle are well cared for. She has had many cats over the years too. Currently she has Oliver (who likes to race you to the bathroom and lick your leg with his sandpaper tongue) and the ever elusive Kit (she's had her for years but we've never seen her. We're not really sure she exists). Not too long ago, Aunt M and Uncle D had to have a cat put down that found them years ago named "White Cat". He would wander onto her deck and eat the raccoon food. She put a box out for him for shelter and needless to say, he eventually made his way into the house and was a great companion. Then along came Radar.

Aunt M was feeling sad about the death of White Cat when Radar showed up - well, he actually hobbled up. Radar must have been hit by a car or suffered an injury that messed his leg up. It sticks out kinda funny. Of course, Aunt M scooped him up, took him to the vet, got a clean bill of health on him, checked the "Lost Cat" ads and Craiglist. Needless to say, Radar has now settled into the daily chaos of living with Deuce, Tillie, Belle, Oliver and Kit.

Here he is!
We think he's a pretty lucky guy!

Lucky Friday

The weekend is here and it is time to reflect on how we three friends are so lucky. First, let us share this story from one of our blogging friends...

Our friend Joe fosters dogs. You can visit his blog at http://joesfosterdogs.blogspot.com.
Today, Joe posted a story about his foster dog Albert. Joe returned home to find that Albert had busted through the fence in the back yard and had run off. A neighbor had seen Albert running loose but Joe hasn't been able to find him. Joe has a heart of gold when it comes to caring for dogs and we know this is very hard on him. We are hoping that if Albert cannot find his way back home, he find a loving family who will take him in and make him a part of their family.

We are lucky that our people have taken the three of us in and made us a part of the family. We have everything we could ever want or need. We are truly lucky. We hope that Albert will be as lucky as us.

Have a great weekend -
Tink, Oscar and Tuck

UPDATE • UPDATE • UPDATE • UPDATE•

Albert has been found and is currently catching up on the much needed rest after catting around all night long. Whew! We had our paws crossed all weekend long hoping he would make it home safely. Major relief!

In The News

A news report has just been released:

Researchers in Austria claim to have demonstrated jealous behavior in dogs. The behavior, which has only previously been demonstrated in primates, was interpreted after dogs stopped carrying out a simple task when another dog continues to be rewarded for the same task.

Well, DUH! We could have told them that and saved them a lot of time and money "researching"! Stop by our house at any time and we could demonstrate this behavior. Why didn't they just ask us?

New Family Member

We have a new family member to welcome. Our aunt and uncle and cousins used to have a HUGE German shepherd named Thor - very intimidating in size but actually a big baby who just wanted to sit on your foot and have you love on him. He went to dog heaven a while ago so his family decided it was time for another dog. On Saturday, they made their choice from the local humane society and brought her home.

Her name is Sadie and she is gorgeous!!! They couldn't have made a better choice! She is wonderful with the kids and has already let everyone in the neighborhood know that this is her new home and she is here to stay. The family is sooooo happy with their Heinze 57 dog!

Grandma thinks its funny that she now has as many granddogs as grandkids!

Holy Coldness Batman!

WOW - it's been cold outside! We got some snow over the weekend but along with the snow came some really cold temps. Even with his sweater on, Oscar was shaking. This is the first time Tucker has seen snow. His first reaction was to stand in the wind and raise his nose to the sky. If he were human, he would look like he was catching snow flakes on his tongue. We don't have any pictures to share because we were quickly out to do our thing and then back into the house to snuggle on our beds or a nice, warm lap.

I can't wait for a really big snow to play in. I love to burrow my nose into it. Poor Oscar is so close to the ground, it is hard for him to do his business. Our family always clears a spot for him. Tucker is going to love a good, deep snow. He doesn't mind the cold as much. He and I can frolic in the yard. Until then - Tink

Lucky Friday

It's that time again. Every Friday we like to reflect on why we are so lucky. We have one of the best families around (and we hear from a lot of our 4-legged friends that they have life pretty good too). We do know that there are others without life so good. Tink is a rescue dog and she has a few stories to tell.

Today, we'd like to share how lucky we are. WE MADE THE CUT!!!

What cut you ask? Well, our mom submitted our photos to one of the coolest places around, The Pet Spot , Cincinnati's Premier Luxury Pet Care Resort. They were putting a 2009 calendar together and wanted photos.

Well, WE MADE THE COVER!!!
The three of us were featured on the cover but that's not all.

Our little birthday boy Oscar is Mr. April!

Can you believe it? We are so lucky!

Just for fun

We are really starting to get into the holiday spirit around here. We have our outfits and the hopes of receiving something special under the Christmas tree on Christmas morning. Tucker hopes he gets to meet Santa and his reindeer. Today's post is just for fun since we are in the holiday mood.
Give it a shake!

Gingerbread House

We mentioned on Friday that our family was going to make a gingerbread house this weekend for Houses of Hope benefitting Shriners.

Why the big deal? We've all seen gingerbread houses before.

Well, you haven't seen anything like this.

It still is not completed (they have until Wednesday) but check it out so far. This is our new friend Ginger and we'd love to eat her up! The strands of Christmas lights, baseball and note to Santa still need to be added along with the snow but it looks great so far. They even gave Ginger a jeweled collar.

Let us know what you think!

Here it is - the final entry!
