When it comes to living a dog's life, it all depends on the company you keep.
More than 2,500 years ago, the dogs we call Pekingese guarded the emperors of China. In the first century AD, Emperor Ming Ti, a Buddhist, named them Fu Lin, or "lion dogs." The lion represented strength to Buddhists. Ming Ti decided the ferocious little guard dogs matched the descriptions of lions (since China had no lions). The dogs could be owned only by aristocrats living in the Forbidden City, the royal court in Beijing. In the early days, Westerners called Beijing "Peking", so today well call the dogs Pekingese.
The Pekingese became the beloved companions of China's royal court. Ladies carried them around, hidden in their voluminous sleeves. The dogs also wore silk robes and had their own staffs to groom and care for them.

Tucker

Our Mom grew up with Pekes! Jody, was the first one - he lived to be 18 years old!
A number of years after he passed, Honey came to live with them. She lived to be 16 years old. They were both much loved & well cared for!
We bow down to his Royal Dogness!

WOW! There is royalty in my posse! Does this mean I have to bow when I see you? The rest of the dawgs in the posse just sniff butts.
We always look forward to all the information you include in your posts.
Tucker is so deserving of human servants.
Royal blood will out! We missed you guys!

Tucker, I'm glad they've bred the silk robes out of your line. Your handsome furs are all you need to show off your royal dogness! You got a cute staff too. They look very well-trained. Gimme five, dude.
